Taylor County, Wisconsin Overview

Taylor County is located in Northern Wisconsin. Its county seat is Medford. The county was created in 1875 from portions of Chippewa, Lincoln, Marathon, and Clark counties. It is believed to have been named in honor of the governor of Wisconsin at the time, William Robert Taylor. The county’s total area is 984 square miles. Based on the 2010 census, there are 20,689 people living in the area. The county is bordered in the north by Price County, in the east by Lincoln County, in the southeast by Marathon County, in the south by Clark County, in the west by Chippewa County, and in the northwest by Rusk County. The County Clerk provides administrative and clerical services to the County Board of Supervisors as well as maintains a public file of all standing committees.
