Sawyer County is located in Northern Wisconsin. The county seat is Hayward. The county was created in 1885 and named in honor of a politician who represented Wisconsin in both houses of Congress, Philetus Sawyer. The county’s total area is 1,350 square miles with a population of 16,557 (2010). The adjacent counties are Bayfield County in the north, Ahsland County in the northeast, Price County in the southeast, Rusk County in the south, and Washburn County in the west.
