Racine County is located in the Southeastern region of Wisconsin. Its county seat is also called Racine. The county was created in 1836 and named after its principal town, Racine. The town’s name is the French word for root, referring to the Root River which was where the town was established. The county’s total area is 792 square miles with an estimated population of 195,163, which makes this the fifth most populated county in the state. The adjacent counties are Milwaukee County in the north, Ottawa County (MI) in the northeast, Allegan County (MI) in the southeast, Kenosha County in the south, Walworth County in the west, and Waukesha County in the northwest.
