Pierce County is located in the West Central Region of Wisconsin. Ellsworth serves as the county seat. The county was created in 1853 and named in honor of the 14th US President, Franklin Pierce. Based on the 2010 census, there are 41,019 people living in the county which has a total area of 592 square miles. The adjacent counties are St. Croix County in the north, Dunn County in the northeast, Pepin County in the southeast, Goodhue County (MN) in the southwest, Dakota County (MN) in the west, and Washington County (MN) in the northwest.
