Marquette County, Wisconsin Overview

Marquette County is located in the Northeast region of Wisconsin. Montello serves as the county seat. The county was formed in 1836 as part of the Wisconsin Territory. It was later organized in 1848. The county was named in honor of Father Marquette, a French Jesuit missionary who founded the first European settlement in Michigan. According to the 2010 census, there are 15,404 people living in the 464-square mile area. The adjacent counties are Waushara County in the north, Green Lake County in the east, Columbia County in the south, and Juneau County in the west. The County Clerk provides clerical and administrative services to the County Board of Supervisors, maintaining a record of the minutes and agendas of all Board proceedings. He/she also issues marriage licenses, coordinates county-wide elections, and maintains records for the county such as annual reports from all the different county departments. The Clerk also provides the Central Reproduction and Mail Service and publishes the County Directory Book.

The County Clerk also has other duties such as providing Notary Public services; acting as a DNR agent by issuing hunting and fishing licenses; issuing temporary license plates, vehicle registration renewals, and title applications; accepting passport applications, issuing work permits, and handles claims against the county.

Marquette Court Records Information

All court records for civil, criminal, family, traffic, ordiance, and ordinance citations are kept in the office of Clerk of Circuit Court. You can access these records in person at the Clerk’s office or online at the Wisconsin Circuit Court Access website. If you want to get a copy of a court record, you must submit your request in writing. The fee is $1.25/per page. An additional $5 will be charged if you want your documents to be certified.
