Langlade County is located in the northern region of Wisconsin. Its county seat is Antigo. The county was formed in 1879 and originally named New County. Its name was officially changed to Langlade County in 1880 in honor of Charles Michel de Langlade, a fur trader and war chief who was vital in defending the French territory during the Seven Years’ War. The county’s total war is 888 square miles. Based on the 2010 census, the population is 19,977. The counties bordering this area are Oneida County in the north, Forest County in the northeast, Oconto County in the east, Menominee County in the southeast, Shawano County in the south, Marathon County in the southwest, and Lincoln Count in the west.
