Iowa County is located in the south central region of Wisconsin. It was created in 1830 as part of the Michigan Territory and named in honor of the Iowa tribe, a Native American Siouan people. The county seat is Dodgeville which also happens to be the largest city in the area. The total area of the county is 768 square miles. According to the 2010 census, there are 23,687 people living in the area. The counties bordering this area are Sauk County in the north, Dane County in the east, Green County in the southeast, Lafayette County in the south, Grant County in the west, and Richland County in the northwest.
