Forest County is located in the northern region of Wisconsin. The county seat is Crandon. The county was created in 1885 from parts of Langlade and Oconto counties by the Wisconsin State Legislature. It was named for the forests that were located inside its area. The total area of the county is 1,046 square miles. According to the 2010 census, there are 9,304 people living in this county. The adjacent counties are Iron County (MI) in the north, Florence County in the northeast, Marinette County in the east, Oconto County in the southeast, Langlade County in the southwest, Oneida County in the west, and Vilas County in the northwest.
