Florence County is located in the northern region of Wisconsin. Its county seat is also called Florence. The county was created in 1882 and named after the Florence Mining Company. The county’s total area is 498 square miles with a population of 4,423 (2010), making it the second least populated county in the state. The counties surrounding the area are Iron County (MI) in the north, Dickinson County (MI) in the east, Marinette County in the south, and Forest County in the west.
