Eau Claire County, Wisconsin Overview
Eau Claire County is located in the West Central region of Wisconsin. Its couty seat is also called Eau Claire. The county was originally created as a town in 1855 located in Chippewa County. It was called the Town of Clearwater. In 1856, the name was changed to the Town of Eau Claire after the Eau Claire River. The town was eventually made into a county later in the year by an act of the Wisconsin Legislature. According to the 2014 census, there are approximately 101,564 people living in the 645-square mile area. The counties bordering this area are Chippewa County in the north, Clark County in the east, Jackson County in the southeast, Trempealeau County in the south, Buffalo County in the southwest, Pepin County in the west, and Dunn County in the northwest.
