Dunn County can be found in the West Central region of Wisconsin. Its county seat is Menomonie. The county was created in 1854 from a portion of Chippewa County. It was named in honor of the first chief justice of the territory, Charles Dunn. The county’s total area is 864 square miles with a population of 43,857 (2010). The adjacent counties are Barron County in the north, Chippewa County in the east, Eau Claire County in the southeast, Pepin County in the south, Pierce County in the southwest, and St. Croix County in the west.
