Clark County is located in the West Central Region of Wisconsin. Neillsville serves as the county seat. Created in 1853, the county was named in honor of A.W. Clark who was an early settler in the area. The county’s total area is 1,219 square miles with a population of 34,690 (2010). The adjacent counties are Taylor County in the north, Marathon County in the northeast, Wood County in the southeast, Jackson County in the south, Eau Claire County in the west, and Chippewa County in the northwest. The County Clerk acts as secretary to the County Board as well as to various county committees. His/her duties include providing public notice of county activities and meetings, coordinating monthly board agendas, and keeping a record of all County Board proceedings. In addition, the Clerk administers elections for the County. Some of the duties include preparing and distributing ballots, receiving and filing nomination papers, and publishing legal notices.
