Brown County is located in the northeast region of Wisconsin. Its county seat is Green Bay. The county seat was created in 1818 and was named in honor of a military leader who served during the War of 1812, Major General Jacob Brown. Brown County was one of the two original counties in the state. According to the 2010 census, there are 248,007 people living in the 616-square mile area, making this the 4th most populated county in the state. The counties surrounding the area are Oconto County in the north, Door County in the northeast, Kewaunee County in the east, Manitowoc County in the southeast, Calumet County in the southwest, Outagamie County in the west, and Shawano County in the northwest.
