Barron County, Wisconsin Overview

Barron County is located in Northern Wisconsin. Its county seat is also called Barron. Created in 1859, the county was originally called Dallas County in honor of the 11th US Vice President, George Mifflin Dallas. It was renamed in 1869 in honor of Henry D. Barron, a Wisconsin lawyer and politician who served in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit as a circuit judge. The county’s total area is 890 square miles with a population of 45,870 (2010). The adjacent counties are Washburn County in the north, Rusk County in the east, Chippewa County in the southeast, Dunn County in the south, Polk County in the west, and Burnett County in the northwest.
