Adams County is located in the West Central Region of Wisconsin. The county seat is Friendship. The county was formed in 1848 and later organized in 1853. It was named in honor of the 2nd US President, John Adams. The total area of the county is 689 square miles with an estimated population of 20,069 people (2016). The adjacent counties are Wood County in the north, Portage County in the northeast, Waushara and Marquette Counties in the east, Columbia County in the southeast, Sauk County in the south, Vernon County in the southwest, Monroe County in the west, and Jackson County in the northwest.
