Monroe County is located in the state of West Virginia. The county was formed in January 14, 1799 and named after James Monroe. The county seat is Union. As of 2015, the county has a population of 13,506. The county has a total area of 474 square miles, 473 square miles of which is land, and 0.9 square miles is water.
