Yakima County can be found in the South Central region of Washington. Its county seat is also called Yakima. The county was created from a portion of Ferguson County in 1865. It was named in honor of a Native American tribe, the Yakama tribe. The total area of the county is 4,311 square miles. The county is bordered by Kittitas County in the north, Grant County in the northeast, Benton County in the east, Klickitat County in the south, Skamania County in the southwest, Lewis County in the west, and Pierce County in the northwest.
