Pierce County is located in the Coastal Region of Washington. Its county seat is Tacoma. The county was created in 1852 from a portion of Thurston County. It was named in honor of the 14th US President, Franklin Pierce. The county’s total area is 1,806 with an estimated population of 876,764 (2017), making this the second most populated county in the state.
