Okanogan County is located in the north central region of Washington. Its county seat is called Okanogan as well. The county was created in 1888 from a portion of Stevens County. Its name is derived from the word ukʷnaqín which is part of the Okanagan language. The county has a total area of 5,315 square miles, the largest in the state. Based on the 2017 census, there are 41,742 people living in the county. The adjacent counties are Ferry County in the east, Douglas County in the south, Chelan County in the west, and Canada in the north.
