Douglas County is located in the North Central region of Washington. Its county seat is Waterville. The county was created in 1883 from a portion of Lincoln County. It was named in honor of the designer of the Kansas-Nebraska Act, Stephen A. Douglas. The total area of the county is 1,849 square miles and the estimated population is 41,945 (2017). The counties surrounding the area are Okanogan County in the north, Grant County in the east, Kittitas County in the south, and Chelan County in the west.
