Clark County is located in the southwestern region of Washington. The county seat is Vancouver. It was founded in 1845 by the provisional government of Oregon Territory and named in honor of William Clark of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The total area of the county is 656 square miles with a population of 474,643 (2017) which makes this the 5th most populated county in the state. The adjacent counties are Cowlitz County in the north, Skamania County in the east, Multnomah County (OR) in the south, and Columbia County in the west.
