Richmond County Overview

Believed to be named for Richmond, London Richmond County in Virginia was formed in 1692 in the Northern Neck area of the state. As of the 2010 census, the population was 9,254. The county seat, Warsaw is also the largest community. The county, not to be confused with the capital city of the same name, is home to a portion of the nationally protected Rappahannock River Valley National Wildlife Refuge. The county has a total area of 191 square miles of land, plus 25 square miles of water. Bordering counties are: Essex to the southwest, Lancaster to the southeast, Northumberland to the east, and Westmoreland to the north.
