Henry County Overview

Created in 1777, Henry County in Virginia had a population of 54,151 as of the 2010 census. Although the administrative facilities are in Collinsville, Martinsville is considered the county seat. Ridgeway is the largest community. The county was initially named Patrick Henry County in honor of Patrick Henry, who was then serving as the first Governor of Virginia. The county has a total area of 382 square miles of land, plus two square miles of water. Adjacent counties are: Franklin to the north, Pittsylvania to the east, Patrick to the west, and Martinsville is fully surrounded by Henry County. Two additional counties in North Carolina also border to the south and southwest, Rockingham and Stokes respectively.
