Benton County can be found in the south central region of Washington. Its county seat is Prosser. The county was formed in 1905 from parts of Klickitat and Yakima Counties. It was named in honor of a US Senator from Missouri, Thomas Hart Benton. The county’s total area is 1,760 square miles and its estimated population is 198,171 (2017). The adjacent counties are Grant County in the north, Franklin County in the northeast, Walla Walla County in the east, Umatilla County (OR) in the southeast, Morrow County (OR) in the south, Klickitat County in the southwest, and Yakima County in the west.
