Franklin County is located in the northern region of Vermont. Its county seat is the city of St. Albans. The county was formed in 1792 from part of Chittenden County and later organized in 1796. It was named in honor of Benjamin Franklin. The total area of the county measures 692 square miles with an estimated population of 48,799.
