Weber County Overview
Weber County in Utah was formed in 1850 and named for a fur trapper and trader, John Henry Weber. As the fourth most populous county, the population of the county was 231,236 as of the 2010 census. Ogden is both the county seat and the largest community and is also the home of Weber State University. The total area of the county is 576 square miles of land, plus 83 square miles of water. It is the second-smallest county in Utah by land area and third-smallest by total area. The county extends from high in the Wasatch Range in the east into a portion of the Great Salt Lake to the west. The Weber and Ogden rivers and their tributaries run through its valleys. The Weber County Surveyor’s office divides the county into two regions, the “Lower Valley” and the “Upper Valley”, divided by the ridge of the Wasatch front range south through the county. The “Lower Valley” is the more populous part and is next to the Great Salt Lake. The “Upper Valley” is the eastern part of the county and consists mostly of the Ogden Valley, the watershed of the Ogden River. Adjacent counties are: Tooele to the southwest, Davis to the south, Morgan to the south, Rich to the northeast, Cache to the north, and Box Elder to the northwest. The county is also home to The Osmond family of entertainers, and a portion of the nationally protected Cache National Forest. The most populous zip code in the county is 84404, and it is one of nine used by the county.
