Navarro County, Texas Overview

Navarro County is located in the state of Texas. Named after José Antonio Navarro, the county was formed in April 25, 1846 and its county seat is Corsicana. The county has a total population of 47,735, as of 2010, with its area spanning 1086 square miles (land area being 1010 square miles, while water area being 76 square miles). The county consists of 15 ZIP codes, with ZIP code 75110 recorded as the one with the largest population. Navarro County borders the following counties: Limestone County, Texas to the south; Henderson County, Texas to the northeast; Ellis County, Texas to the northwest; Hill County, Texas to the southwest, and; Freestone County, Texas to the southeast.

Navarro County Clerk Information

The county clerk preserves all documents pertaining to real property records, including deeds, tax liens, deeds of trust, affidavits, and UCCs. The recording of deed records for Navarro County began in 1850. The county clerk issues marriage licenses, Declaration of Informal Marriage licenses and files assumed names (DBA’s) for new and established businesses. The county clerk files and maintains all birth and death records for Navarro County. The Navarro County Clerk will only retain death records for individuals who died in Navarro County. Maintenance of birth and death records for the State of Texas began in 1903. The county clerk records information on all class A and B misdemeanor offenses such as DWI’s, thefts, assaults, and drug cases. The office also issues Occupational Licenses for individuals. This office also provided administrative support to the county court through the issuance of warrants, summons, bond forfeitures, subpoenas, commitments, etc. The office maintains records for civil and probate court. The office issues citations, writs of execution, letters of guardianship, letters testamentary, notices, and other documents as required by law or requested by the customer. The county clerk scans real property records, public records, probate, criminal and commissioner’s court minutes; manages and preserves these records.

District Clerk

A civil case information sheet must be completed and submitted when an original petition or application is filed to initiate a new civil, family law, probate, or mental health case or when a post-judgment petition for modification or motion for enforcement is filed in a family law case. The Navarro County District Clerk’s office began eFiling on OCtober 16, 2014. Although it is not mandatory for us to begin efiling at this time, we chose to begin this process as soon as possible so that we could provide swift, hassle-free, uninterrupted service to our customers. Effective January 1st 2016, efiling will be mandatory for all practicing attorneys who wish to file civil and family cases, pursuant to Supreme Court Order 13-9092. Navarro County will be required to accept mandatory efiling beginning, January 1, 2016.
