McLennan County Clerk Information

The county clerk is the custodian of all county records including deeds, deeds of trust, liens, hospital liens, cattle brands, certificates of release or discharge from active duty (DD 214), some birth and death records, and a variety of other important records both public and non-public. The county clerk also issues and maintains marriage licenses and records assumed name certificates.

An applicant for a birth or death certificate copy must meet the following criteria: The applicant must be the individual listed on the certificate, or an immediate family member such as a parent, child, brother, sister, spouse, grandparent, legal representative or a properly qualified person of the applicant, The applicant must complete a request form found below under Related Documents. Note, as of September 1, 2015, the applicant’s signature must be notarized if requesting by mail.
