Crane County is located in the state of Texas. The county was formed in 1927 and named after William Carey Crane. The county seat is Crane. As of 2010, the county has a population of 4,375. The county has a total area of 786 square miles, 785 square miles of which is land, and 0.7 square miles is water. Qualified applicants may obtain a certified copy of a birth or death record. A qualified applicant is defined as the registrant or an immediate relative or legal representative of the registrant. An immediate family member would be a spouse, parent, grandparent sibling, or child of the registrant. A legal representative is defined as a court appointed administrator or guardian, or a power of attorney appointee. If the mother is the only parent listed on the birth certificate, the qualified applicant is limited to the mother or maternal grandmother unless the applicant is the person named on the birth certificate and the individual has reached the age of 18 years. Applicant must present a valid photo ID, such as a driver’s license, state issued identification card, or other valid form of photo identification. A legal representative must also present documents showing proof of appointment and specific authorization to obtain the document. It is at the discretion of the County Clerk to determine whether sufficient identification has been provided.
