Austin County is located in the state of Texas. The county was formed in 1837 and named after Stephen F. Austin. The county seat is Bellville. As of 2010, the county has a population of 28,417. The county has a total area of 656 square miles, 647 square miles of which is land, and 9.9 square miles is water. The county consists of 13 ZIP codes, with ZIP code 77474 recorded as the one with the largest population. Austin County borders the following counties: Washington County, Texas to the north; Wharton County, Texas to the south; Waller County, Texas to the east; Colorado County, Texas to the west; Fayette County, Texas to the northwest, and; Fort Bend County, Texas to the southeast.

Access to birth certificates is restricted to qualified applicants for 75 years from the date of birth, 25 years for death certificates. An ID is required to prove your identity and to prove that you are a qualified applicant. To request a birth/death certificate by mail, you’ll need to fill up the application forms linked below. Information about the owner of the of the birth/death certificate, as well as of the applicant, is required to be filled up. The sworn statement, application, payment, and a photocopy of your valid photo ID are required for the request to be processed.
