Fall River County is located in the U.S. state of South Dakota. The county was formed in 1883 and named after Fall River. The county seat is Hot Springs. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2016, the county has a population of approximately 6,849 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,749 square miles of which 1,740 square miles is land and 9.2 square miles is water. Fall River County borders the following counties: Custer County to the north; Oglala Lakota County to the east; Dawes County, Nebraska to the southeast; Sioux County, Nebraska to the south and Niobrara County, Wyoming to the west. Fall River County Clerk of Courts Office Information

The Clerk of Courts Office is responsible for variety of duties. The Clerk of Courts assists with requests for information on court processes, fees, court dates, forms, and options. This office is responsible for opening new files, assigning case numbers, preparing folders, creating a Register of Action, and collecting fees. The Clerk maintains the calendar of court dates and action taken in court. This office also supports the judges in the courtroom, summon jurors, assist in juror selection, perform marriages, set bond, process uncontested matters. They provide file status reviews, issue subpoenas, warrants, and writs. They collect fines, fees, costs, restitution, and child support.

The clerk maintains all the court records for Fall River and Oglala Lakota Counties, dating back over 100 years. In order to obtain a record, you will need to provide the name, approximate dates, county and type of case. Search requests must be made in writing, with payment prior to search. There is a $20 search fee to be paid with the search request, with additional fees of $25 for copies and $2 for each certification stamp.
