Buffalo County is located in the U.S. state of South Dakota. The county was formed in 1873 and named after American Bison. The county seat is Gann Valley. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2016, the county has a population of approximately 2,043 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 488 square miles of which 471 square miles is land and 16 square miles is water. Buffalo County borders the following counties: Hand County to the northeast; Jerauld County to the east; Brule County to the south; Lyman County to the west and Hyde County to the northwest.Buffalo County has five zip codes. Buffalo County Clerk of Courts Office Information

The primary administrative duties of the Clerk of Courts Office include: handling requests for information on court procedures, fees, court dates, and forms; maintaining court files; processing traffic tickets and other criminal complaints, receipting and disbursing fines, fees, costs, bond and restitutions. The Clerk also works closely with the public, law enforcement and attorneys in maintaining judges’ calendars of court dates and assisting judges in the courtroom. In addition, the Clerk of Courts is responsible for summoning and qualifying jurors, assist judge in juror selection process, and authorize payment of jurors. Other miscellaneous duties of the Clerk of Courts include: setting bond, handling initial appearances, issuing warrants, entering default judgments in small claims cases and performing marriages.
