Kent County is located in the central region of Rhode Island. Its county seat is East Greenwich. The county was created in 1750 from a portion of Providence County and named after the county of Kent in England. According to the 2015 census, there are 164,801 people living in the 188 square mile area which makes this the second most populated county in the state. The adjacent counties are Providence County in the north, Bristol County in the east, Washington County in the south, New London County (CT) in the southwest, Windham County (CT) in the west, and Newport County in the southeast.
