Schuylkill County Archives Office Information

The Schuylkill County Archives Office is the central depository for all of the County’s government records. The oldest records predate the existence of Schuylkill County, which was founded in 1811. These oldest records have been microfilmed and the originals have been stored away as the oldest records in the archives facility. Currently, the archives are home to records from the Clerk of Courts, Domestic Relations, Prothonotary, Records of Deeds, Register of Wills, Sheriff, Tax Assessment, Tax Claim, Treasurer, Commissioners, Rest Haven and Veteran Affairs. Most of these records are open to the public, but some remain confidential.

Schuylkill County Archives Office also maintains records pertaining to genealogy, naturalization and immigration records, birth, death and records of wills and estates. The archives also has all of the County land records, such as deed and mortgage books that are in great demand by lawyers and title searchers. Although the services of the archives are free to all users, there is a $.25 (cent) copy fee for each page duplicated. Mail requests, within reason, are processed at a fee of $.25 (cents) per copy.

Schuylkill County Recorder of Deeds Office Information

The Recorder of Deeds Office records real estate deeds, mortgages, agreements, leases, powers of attorney, financing statements (UCC), easements and rights of way, subdivision plans, agricultural security areas, notary bonds, oil and gas leases, and any other documents related to real estate or land transactions. Veteran’s discharges, oaths and record bonds for all notaries in the County are also recorded in this office.
