Mifflin County is located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. The county was formed in 1789 and named after Thomas Mifflin, the first Governor of Pennsylvania. The county seat is Lewistown. Mifflin County Register, Recorder and Clerk of the Orphans’ Court Office Information
The Register of Wills Office maintains the records for all areas of probate and is the agent for the collection of State Inheritance Taxes. Documents required for probating an estate are: The Petition for Grant of Letters, the original Will/Codicil, a Death Certificate, An Estate Information Sheet, applicable Fees and when appropriate, Renunciations, Oaths of Subscribing or Non-Subscribing Witnesses. Filings related to the office dates back to 1789 to the present.
The Recorder of Deeds maintains records relating to real property in the county. Documents that are recorded include but not limited to are deeds, mortgages, satisfaction of mortgage, releases, subdivision plans, agreements/easements, highway maps and secured transactions. The Recorder of Deeds Office has recorded documents that date back to 1789 to the present. Military Discharge Records are also recorded in the Recorder of Deeds office.
The Clerk of Orphans’ Court maintains the records of all proceedings relating to adoptions, guardianships and marriage license records when the application for marriage was filed in this county.
