Wyoming County borders the following counties: Susquehanna County to the north; Lackawanna County to the east; Luzerne County to the south; Sullivan County to the west and Bradford County to the northwest. The Wyoming County Prothonotary Office is responsible for all the Court of Common Pleas records filed on civil actions, criminal matters, orphans court petitions, juvenile petitions, adoptions, protections from abuse petitions; guardianship petitions. This office is also responsible for filing
all legal documents then docket same in either hard dockets or on computer in the assigned file for each matter. The office is responsible for all files to be available to the Judge at time of hearing and/or trial.

The Prothonotary/Clerk of Courts selects jury panels from prospective jurors prior to trials, keeps jury attendance records, files verdicts of record; issues subpoenas and certifies records. The office also administers oaths and affirmations, take bonds and bail, issues bench warrants as required by Court Order. Birth and Death records filed in this county are available from 1893 to 1906. Prior to these dates records were not kept and after 1906 records were sent to New Castle, Pa. Marriage records are from 1885 to the present.

The Recorder of Deeds Office of Wyoming County is responsible for the recording of deeds, mortgages, power of attorneys, clean and green filings, landowner consents, highway permits, easements, military discharges, agricultural security areas, mortgage satisfactions, mortgage releases, mortgage modifications, mortgage subordinations, leases, land contracts, notary bonds and oaths, survey and subdivision maps, UCC filings.
