Potter County is located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. The county was formed in 1804 and named after James Potter, a Revolutionary War general. The county seat is Coudersport. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2015, the county has a population of approximately 17,093 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,082 square miles of which 1,081 square miles is land and 0.2 square miles is water. Potter County borders the following counties: Allegany County, New York to the north; Steuben County, New York to the northeast; Tioga County to the east; Lycoming County to the southeast; Clinton County to the south; Cameron County to the southwest and McKean County to the west. The Register of Wills/Recorder of Deeds Office is primarily responsible for real estate transactions, land transactions, and military discharge documents.
