Washington County is in the northwestern region of Oregon. Its county seat is Hillsboro which is also the largest city in the area. The county aws created in 1843 and originally named Twality. In 1949, the county was renamed after George Washington, the first US President, by the territorial legislature. The county has 726 square miles in total with an estimated population of 582,779 (2016 survey), making it the second most populated county in the state. The county is bordered by Columbia County in the north, Multnomah County in the east, Clackamas County in the southeast, Yamhill County in the south, and Tillamook County in the west. The Assessment & Taxation department of Washington County is responsible for the appraisal and assessment of all property in the county; the collection of property taxes; the recording and filing of documents such as deeds, mortgages, contracts, and tax liens; the maintenance of a complete set of taxlot maps; the recording of land plats; the issuance of marriage licenses; the administration of elections in the county; and the preservation of county public records. The public can request copies of public records by mail or in person. You will need to provide the instrument number or book and page number to order copies. Copy charges made by the staff is $4 for the first page and $0.25 for each additional page. The public can also download BoPTA forms, Deferral Programs forms, Property Tax forms, Tax Court forms, Change of Address forms, Transfer Tax Exemption Applications, and Property Tax Publications through the department’s website.

Washington Court Records Information

Court records can be viewed or requested at the Public Records Review Room #110J which is on the first floor of the Justice Services Building at 150 N 1st Avenue, Hillsboro, OR 97124. Court records are available for viewing Monday through Friday, from 8am to 5pm, at the Washington County Courthouse. The records department will aid the public with records searches and copies of court documents. All copy requests must be made in person or by mail and will be handled on a first come, first serve basis. Copies are $0.25 per page. Certified copies cost $5.00 per document plus $0.25 cents per page. Exemplified copies are $10.00 per document plus $0.25 cents per page.
