Wasco County can be located in the north central region of Oregon. The county seat is Dalles. The county was created in 1854 and named after the Wasco tribe, Chinook people who resided on the south side of the Columbia River. The county has a total area of 2,395 square miles, 14 square miles of which is water. According to the 2016 survey, the population is estimated to be 26,115. Wasco County is bordered by Klickitat County (WA) in the north, Sherman County in the east, Wheeler County in the southeast, Jefferson County in the south, Marion County in the southwest, Clackamas County in the west, and Hood River County in the northwest.
