Malheur County, Oregon Overview

Malheur County is located in the southeastern region of Oregon. Created in 1887, the county was named for the Malheur River which flows through the county. The word “Malheur” is a French word for tragedy or misfortune. The county seat is Vale. According to the 2016 census, there are approximately 30,439 residents in the 9,930-square mile area. The county is bordered by Owyhee County, Idaho in the east; Humboldt County, Nevada in the south; Harney County, Oregon in the west; Grant County in the northwest; Baker County in the north. The County Clerk is the chief election official in Malheur County. He or she conducts all elections in the county as well as voter registration. The County Clerk is also the chief record keeper. The office performs real estate recordings and provies access to certain records such as probates, deeds, mortgages, liens, mining, marriage licenses, domestic partnerships, and the County Court journal. The County Clerk also issues marriage licenses, processes domestic partnership registrations, accepts passport applications, and prepares for Board of Property Tax Appeals hearings.

Malheur Court Records Information

Court records from newer cases are available for review at the Malheur County Circuit Court by using the kiosk computers in the lobby. Documents from older cases may be requested for viewing at the courthouse. If you wish to get copies of court records, you can submit a request form (downloadable on the website) to [email protected]. You will need to provide your complete contact information and pertinent information regarding the case. Copies cost $0.25 per page. Certified copies cost $5 per certification. Exemplification costs $10. A check must be submitted to cover the cost of copying the records.
