Lane County can be found in the west central region of Oregon. It was created in 1851 and named after the first territorial governor of Oregon, Joseph Lane. Eugene serves as the county seat. Lane County has a total area of 4,722 square miles, 169 of which is water. According to the 2016 census, there are approximately 369,519 people currently living in the area. The county is bordered by Lincoln, Benton, and Linn Counties in the north; Deschutes County in the east; Klamath County in the southeast; and Douglas County in the south. The Office of the County Clerk is responsible for conducting elections within the county, handling real property recordings, issuing marriage licenses, processing domestic partnership registrations, and is part of the Board of Property Tax Appeals. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday, from 9am to 12nn and 1pm to 4pm. The Assessment & Taxation Department is responsible for appraising property as well as the calculation, collection, and distribution of taxes. The department is also responsible for administering special programs such as veteran exemptions and senior deferrals. The public can use the office’s website to access Tax Maps Online, check tax payment information, read tax reports by year, and pay taxes online, among other things. Forms available on the website include address change form, overpayment refund request, consolidation request, correction of maximum assessed value, and real property return. The Assessment & Taxation Department is open Monday through Thursday, from 10am to 3pm.

Lane Court Records Information
Court records such as divorce records, dissolutions of marriage, annulments, separations, adoptions, and restraining orders can all be obtained from the Lane County Circuit Court. Documents from newer court cases may be viewed using the kiosk computer located in the lobby of the court house. Older case files have not been digitized but can be requested for viewing through the court staff. To gain access to a court file, a copy of a court file, or audio copies of proceedings, you will need to submit a completed request form via email, US mail, fax, phone, or in person at the customer service window in the lobby of the court house. The cost of a copy will be given by the court staff once the request has been made.
