Deschutes County, Oregon Overview

Deschutes County can be found in Central Oregon with an estimated population of 181,307 according to the 2016 census. The county has a total area of 3,055 square miles. The county seat is Bend. The county was founded in 1916 from a portion of Crook County. It was named after the Deschutes River. The county is bordered in the north by Jefferson County, Crook County in the east, Lake County and Klamath County in the south, Lane County and Linn County in the west. Deschutes County Officials Information

The County Clerk is considered the official record keeper for the County. The office is responsible for handles real property transactions, plats, Commissioners’ Journal documents, and Board of Property Tax Appeal petitions for Deschutes County. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday. The issuance of marriage licenses, acceptance of passport applications, and real property recordings are only available until 4pm.

The County Clerk’s Office is comprised of two divisions – Recording and Elections. The Recording Division handles the recording of documents that affect title to real property in Deschutes County. The Clerk’s office also oversees the Archive/Records Center, issues licenses for marriage and antique dealers, and processes passport applications.
The Elections and Voting Division is in charge of preparing and conducting all elections in the county. The division handles voter registration as well as provides voter statistic maps; voter information; and candidate, campaign, and measure resources.

The Assessor’s Office provides online property information, Deschutes County Tax Maps, Tax and Assessment Reports, and Property Tax Exemptions and Deferrals. The office also processes property value appeals and property tax relief as well as handles property tax collection and distribution.

Deschutes Court Records Information

Court records available at the Deschutes County Circuit Court include audio copies, case file copies, traffic violations, and transcripts. The Records File Room is located on the First Floor of the Circuit Court. The File Viewing Window (#4) is open between 8am and 12pm every weekday. You can request copies of court files and documents in person or through mail. Electronic copies are .20 cents per page while hard copies are .25 cents per page.
