Coos County, Oregon Overview

Coos County is located in Southwest Oregon. Its county seat is Coquille. The county was created in 1853 from portions of Umpqua and Jackson counties. It is believed that the origin of the county’s name comes from the Native Americans who lived in the area. The county has a total land area of 1,806 square miles where only 210 of the area is water. The Records Division provides recording of documents for land records and public records such as liens, military discharge documents, and partitions. The division also issues marriage licenses and dog licenses, handles county filings, and processes Board of Property Tax Appeal (BoPTA).
