Baker County is located in Eastern Oregon. Its county seat is Baker City. The county was created in 1862 and named in honor of an Oregon Senator, Edward Dickinson Baker, who died during the Civil War in Virginia in 1861. According to a 2016 census, the county has 16,059 residents in the 3,088-square mile area which consists of 3,068 square miles of land and 20 square miles of water.
Baker County is bordered on the north by Union County; on the west by Grant County; Malheur County on the South; Washington County, Idaho in the east; and Adams County, Idaho in the northeast.
