Canadian County, Oklahoma Overview

Canadian County is located in the state of Oklahoma. The county was formed in March, 1890 and named after the Canadian River. The county seat is El Reno. As of 2014, the county has a population of 129,582. The county has a total area of 906 square miles, 897 square miles of which is land, and 9 square miles is water. The county consists of 13 ZIP codes, with ZIP code 73099 recorded as the one with the largest population. Canadian County borders the following counties: Kingfisher County, Oklahoma to the north; Grady County, Oklahoma to the south; Oklahoma County, Oklahoma to the east; Logan County, Oklahoma to the northeast; Blaine County, Oklahoma to the northwest; Caddo County, Oklahoma to the southwest, and; Cleveland County, Oklahoma to the southeast.

Land record searches can be performed on the County Clerk’s website linked below. The land records are indexed by name only beginning January 1, 1987 and by both name and legal description beginning January 1, 2000.

Images of documents are available beginning January 1, 1993. To easily view images on the County Clerk’s website you must use the free Firefox web browser. Also, a login is required to view images on the Land Records search site. Please contact the Indexing Department (http://www.canadiancounty.org/Directory.aspx?did=27) by telephone to obtain a login.

Complete indexes and documents prior to January 1, 2000 are available for public inspection and copying in the County Clerk’s Office.

Assessor

The Canadian County Assessor’s Office has two property search tools: one is made in partnership with Spatialest, and the default one. The former continues to make available many of the features of the latter search tool, but with new features like change request which allows citizens to notify their office of property changes or discrepancies.

Court Clerk

Open the website: www.oscn.net . From the home page click on “Court Dockets” located at the top of the page.
If you know the case number, enter it on the left side of the screen and change the name of the county and click “Go.” If you do not know the case number click on “Search Dockets” which will bring up a new page. Select a county or “All Oklahoma Courts” then enter a last and first name (the rest of the fields are not required to complete a search). Click “Go.” After the search is complete you will see all cases with the names that were entered. Click on the appropriate case. Click on the “Document Available” link to view a document from the case. If there is not a link for a document or it says “Document available at the Court Clerk’s office,” you will need to contact the Court Clerk’s office for a copy. Most cases prior to 1994 will not be available on OSCN. You will need to contact the Court Clerk’s office for these files.

You can also perform a record search through mail. If you do not know your case number there will be a five dollar ($5.00) record search fee. Please mail a check or money order made payable to Marie Hirst, Court Clerk, along with a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope. Provide as much information about the case and names of all parties involved.

Costs for copies are as follows:
$1.00 for the first page
.50¢ for each additional page
.50¢ for each certification
$5.00 for any authenticated copies.
