Holmes County, Ohio

Located near the center of the state, Holmes County is named after Andrew Holmes, an officer who was killed during the War of 1812. With an approximately 80% Amish population, Holmes County is the second largest Amish Community, following only Lancaster County in Pennsylvania. It is 424 square miles in total area, with 423 of that being land. The county is bordered to the north by Wayne County, the northeast by Stark County, the east by Tuscarawas County, the south by Coshocton County, the southwest by Knox County and the northwest by Ashland County. The County Clerk of Holmes County is responsible for court documents that include civil, domestic and felony charges. They are also responsible for passport applications, vehicle titles and serve as a notary public. These documents are generally considered public record, which means that they can be requested, at any time, during normal business hours. With the exception of court records (which are available at the website below) these records are not available through the online system.

The Register of Deeds is responsible for records related to property within the county. These include mortgages, liens, deeds and partnerships as well as military discharge paperwork, plats and financing statements. Holmes County Court Information

Court records may relate to criminal or civil cases that occur within the county and are generally considered public record once they have been completed and all of the information fully recorded. This means that they can be requested, in person from the office of the Clerk of the Court. These records are not currently available via an online system through Holmes County.
