Holmes County, Ohio

Located near the center of the state, Holmes County is named after Andrew Holmes, an officer who was killed during the War of 1812. With an approximately 80% Amish population, Holmes County is the second largest Amish Community, following only Lancaster County in Pennsylvania. It is 424 square miles in total area, with 423 of that being land. The county is bordered to the north by Wayne County, the northeast by Stark County, the east by Tuscarawas County, the south by Coshocton County, the southwest by Knox County and the northwest by Ashland County. The County Clerk of Holmes County is responsible for court documents that include civil, domestic and felony charges. They are also responsible for passport applications, vehicle titles and serve as a notary public.
