Located near the center of Ohio, Hocking County was first organized back in 1818 and was named for the Hocking River. With 29,380 people as of the 2010 census, the county has 424 square miles of total area, 421 of which are land. It is bordered to the northeast by Perry County, the southeast by Athens County, the south by Vinton County, the southwest by Ross County, the west by Pickaway County and the northwest by Fairfield County.
