Located near the southern border of Ohio, Highland County is named because of the hilly topography that the county consists of. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 43,589and it consists of 558 square miles, 553 of which are land. It is bordered to the north by Fayette County, the northeast by Ross County, the east by Pike County, the southeast by Adams County, the southwest by Brown County and the northwest by Clinton County. The Highland County Clerk is responsible for court related documents. These documents are stored, recorded and indexed within the County Clerk’s Office and are related to civil, domestic and felony criminal cases. Fees and court costs are also handled in this office, as our passports and automobile titles. These documents are generally considered public record, which means that they can be requested by the general public, during normal business hours. The Register of Deeds is responsible for property related documents including property records, conveyances, mortgages, deeds and liens. These documents are considered public record as well and can be requested directly from the office, by anyone who would like them.
