Located on the southern border between Ohio and West Virginia, Gallia County is actually named for the Latin word for the area of what is now France. It is approximately 471 square miles in total area, with 467 of this being land. It is bordered to the north by Vinton County, the northeast by Meigs County, the east by Mason County, West Virginia, the south by Cabell County, West Virginia, the southwest by Lawrence County and the northwest by Jackson County. The County Clerk of Gallia County is located in Gallipolis, Ohio and serves to facilitate court records.
