Delaware County, Ohio

Located near the center of the state, Delaware County, Ohio had a population of approximately 174,214 as of the 2010 census. Named for the Delaware Indian tribe, the county consists of 457 square miles in area, with 443 square miles of land. It is surrounded to the north by Morrow County, the northeast by Knox County, the east by Licking County, the south by Franklin County, the west by Union County and the northwest by Marion County. Delaware County consists of 20 zip codes, the most populous of which are 43015, 43035, 43065 and 43082.

Delaware County does not have a County Clerk to handle personal records for the county. These records are instead handled by a range of other government entities throughout the county. They do have a County Recorder who is responsible for all property related documents.

The County Recorder handles information related to real and personal property within the county to include encumbrances, warranty deeds, sheriff’s deeds, quit claim deeds and maps. This office is also responsible for military discharges. Documents are available via the online system and many can also be requested in person, during normal business hours. There are costs associated with all requests, which are determined at the time of the request or at the time they are picked up.

Delaware County Court Information

Court records for all counties are considered public record once the case has ended and documents have been completely filed. Documents can be requested by the public at any time once this has happened, with the exception of juvenile cases and some domestic violence cases. Other specific documents can be redacted by the courts as needed. Most records are available via the online system; however others may need to be requested directly from the court during normal business hours.

Delaware County Marriage License Office
In order to obtain a marriage license in Delaware County, the applicants must apply together, in person, at the County Clerk’s office. Both parties must present their state-issued picture ID, military ID, or passport, and know their social security number
